Teylu Bench

This bespoke Oak dining bench was designed as a perfect complement to a dining table I had previously crafted for the same client. The challenge was to create a piece that offered additional seating without overwhelming the limited floorspace of a London home. The result is a bench that seamlessly blends form, function, and sustainability, while remaining true to the understated elegance of its companion table. Keeping the design simple was intentional—I wanted the oak to take center stage. The natural beauty of the wood speaks volumes through its warm tones, subtle grain, and organic texture. Small nods to the original table are present in the bench’s design, creating a harmonious relationship between the two pieces, yet it stands on its own with a quiet individuality that avoids replication. The choice of materials was guided by both quality and values. Using Grown in Britain oak was an easy decision, not only because of the exceptional quality it provides but also because it aligns with the client’s commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. Locally sourced timber ensures that the bench is rooted in a sense of place while reducing its environmental footprint—a detail that enhances its charm and significance. To ensure the bench is as practical as it is beautiful, it has been finished with a natural blend of oils and waxes. This finish provides a durable, family-safe matte surface that enhances the oak’s natural characteristics while protecting it from everyday wear and tear.
